Bhubaneswar, Apr 7:

Four days after Plus Two answer paper evaluation began in Odisha and a day after Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) announced to make alternate arrangements, the evaluation logjam continued today.

While the CHSE failed to make alternate arrangements at a short notice as announced yesterday, Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi today assured to fulfill some of the demands of the agitating 448 Category aided Block Grant colleges and 662 Block Grant colleges lecturers in a bid to make them part of the evaluation process.

“For the 662 Block Grant colleges, today we decided to remove the restriction that makes students attendance a must for the first post eligible for aid. This will be implemented within a month. Also, we will increase the grade pay for Group-D workers by Rs 200. Various other proposals are also being considered by the inter-ministerial committee working on the issue,” said Panigrahi in a bid to lure the teachers back to the evaluation centers.

The lecturers, however, refused to relent and demanded abolition of block grant system altogether and implementation of full grant-in-aid before they start evaluating answer papers.

“The Minister is cleverly trying to divert the attention. This is not going to work. Our agitation would continue until block grant system is abolished and full grant-in-aid is provided. The minister neither has discussed our key demands with us, nor he has taken any policy decision on it,” said 662 Block Grant College President Golak Nayak and 448 Block Grant College President Pabitra Mahala speaking to reporters today.

The evaluation process, on the other hand, was badly hit today. In some of the centres, the evaluation is yet to begin.
