suicide

On November 25, the bodies of Brajabandhu Acharya (57), his wife Pratibha (55) and son Biswajit (28) were found hanging from the ceiling of a garage in their government quarters inside Utkal University campus in Vani Vihar. Brajabandhu worked as a laboratory attendant in Department of Statistics while his son ran his business.

The exact reason behind the suicides is yet to be known; however, as per preliminary investigations, huge loan burden on Biswajit and family disturbance are considered as prime factors.

As per sources, Biswajit had taken huge amounts of loan from various quarters to run a travel business that failed. Burdened with losses he had disappeared from the campus and returned only two months ago. Even though he had promised to return all the money to the creditors, his inability to do so led to constant friction in the family as creditors kept calling on them.
