Police lathi-charge Panchayat Samiti members in Odisha capital, 5 injured

Bhubaneswar: Police today resorted to lathi-charge on agitating Panchayat Samiti members at Lower PMG in Odisha capital as they tried to move towards the State Assembly.

A scuffle ensued between the agitators and policemen while the former attempted to gherao the Assembly. In order to take the situation under control, the cops lathicharged the Panchayat Samiti members following which they ran helter-skelter.

While five persons were injured in the incident, police have detained over 30 agitators. Notably, the Panchayat Samiti members were trying to gherao the Assembly over fulfilment of several demands including benefits at par with sarpanches.
