Case registered over Rajya Sabha TV producer’s death

Ghaziabad, July 23 :

Police in Ghaziabad Wednesday registered a criminal case against two unidentified people over the mysterious death of 31-year-old Rajya Sabha TV producer Milita Dutta Mandal, who died at her residence in Vaishali.

“We have registered a case. The two people have not been identified as the CCTV camera was not working at the time when the crime took place. But the apartment’s security guard told us that two people had come by a car at the time of the incident,” a police official said.

Earlier in the day, police had refused to comment on Mandal’s death.

Asked about the post-mortem report, Ghaziabad police said their Delhi counterparts were looking after that.

On the progress in the investigation, on whether police conducted any ‘dummy test’ to ascertain the nature of injuries, Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Yadav said: “No Comments”.

Meanwhile, relatives of the woman termed the death as “not normal”.

Mandal died Monday night under mysterious circumstances at her residence in the Mahagun Mosaic Phase II apartments in Vaishali.

She was found in a critically injured condition in the basement of the multi-storeyed apartment tower.

Mandal had reached her eight-floor apartment around 11 p.m. Monday.

Around 11.40 p.m., neighbours heard a scream and found her in the basement. Along with her husband, they rushed the woman to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police (City) Shiv Hari Meena said the case was being investigated keeping all possible angles in mind.

“Let the post mortem report reach us, then only we will be able to comment,” he said.

“Prima facie, it seems she was pushed in a fit of anger by her husband. The balcony was found broken, which might have broken by the heavy push. But it is still a mystery, nothing can be claimed authentically till investigation is completed,” he added.
