Police station attack in Odisha’s Gajapati: Case registered against 300

Paralakhemundi: The Gajapati police today registered case against more than 300 persons in connection with the ransacking of Adava police station in the district and attack on cops.

Hundreds of tribals had yesterday gheraoed the police station opposing detention of a villager in a ganja smuggling case. Police had detained the accused, a resident of Jharanpur village, after raiding the locality.

More than 200 kg ganja was seized from his possession.

The locals alleged that false charges have been levelled against him and demanded immediate release of the person besides withdrawal of the case.

The matter turned ugly when the protesters broke open the gate of the police station, stormed into it, thrashed the police personnel and ransacked properties at the police station.

Around 7-8 cops had sustained injuries in the attack.
