Keonjhar/Phulbani, Jan 17:
The campaign for the polls of newly formed Champua NAC of Kendujhar district and Baliguda NAC of Kandhamal district came to an end this evening.
All three leading political parties left no stones unturned to cover maximum ground before the NACs go to the polls on Tuesday.
In the politically more significant Champua NAC, BJD deployed its star campaigners including an array of top politicians to campaign for the contestants.
The outcome of this NAC would be watched closely by political observers and opponents alike given the stronghold of independent MLA Sanatan Mahakud in the area and BJD’s recent loss in Keonjhar Municipality where its chairperson Meena Majhi was ousted after losing a vote of confidence.
While Congress relied on local leaders, BJP deployed former MP Rudra Narayan Pani and actor Pinky Pradhan to campaign in Champua.
In Baliguda NAC, where the fight is between the traditional rivals of BJD, BJP and Congress, the campaign was equally competitive.
BJD MP and Odia actor Anubhav Mohanty and actor turned MLA Akash Das Nayak were the star attraction while political veterans including Minister Pradip Amat, Bikram Keshari Arukh, Pushpendra Singhdeo, Pradip Panigrahi and five other MLAs tried to cover each bylane of the small town.
BJP fielded actor Sritam Dash as its star campaigner while Surama Padhi and Sukant Panigrahi took up a door-to-door campaign. PCC President Prasad Harichandan was seen campaigning for his candidates too.
Notably, both the NACs will go to polls on January 19, the votes would be counted and results would be announced on January 21, as per information provided by State Election Commissioner Rabinarayan Senapati. Both have 13 wards each. While Baliguda NAC has 12,764 voters, Champua NACs has 9,508 voters.
