Pre-poll violence in Odisha’s Utkal university, 1 hospitalised

Bhubaneswar: With Students’ Union elections scheduled for September 23, the Utkal University witnessed pre-poll violence in Odisha capital on Wednesday.

According to reports, some outsiders entered into the campus this evening and had manhandled some students after a verbal spat.

Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, a president candidate, sustained injuries in the attack and was admitted to Capital Hospital here.

“I was thrashed by an outsider while I was campaigning with my friends inside the campus,” said Mohapatra at the hospital bed.

A complaint was lodged at Saheed Nagar police station in this regard.

As the election is approaching, reports of violence in colleges and universities are hitting headlines almost every day from various parts of the State.

On Monday, two students were seriously injured in a group clash erupted in Alarnath Vocational College in Bramhagiri of Puri.
