Pregnant woman, three others killed in road mishaps in Odisha

At least four persons, including a pregnant woman, were killed in two separate accidents in Odisha today.

While two persons were killed in a mishap near Angul, a pregnant woman and another person died in the accident in Nuapada.

According to reports, a private bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Jeypore met with a head-on collision with a truck killing two passengers and injuring six others. The incident occurred at Baisana Square under Handpa police station limits in the district. The deceased have been identified as Damburudhar Swain and Rakesh Sahu.

“The accident took place around 40 km before Angul at around 5 am. We took our injured brother to a nearby hospital in a car. As there was no doctor present in the hospital, we provided first-aid to him and rushed him to District Headquarters Hospital in Angul. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital,” Bikash Sahu, an injured passenger said.

The mishap occurred due to negligent driving, passengers of the bus alleged.

“Three injured persons are undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital and their condition is stable. We have discharged others after providing them treatment,” Dr Sridhar Pradhan, Medical Officer, District Headquarters Hospital said.

In the other incident, a pregnant woman was among two persons killed near Komna after a pick-up van hit an SUV.

According to sources, the deceased woman was on her way to see a doctor in the pick-up van when the ill-fated vehicle met with an accident.
