The prescriptions made by doctors of Odisha’s SCB medical college and hospital would be audited by medical authorities to verify whether the doctors are following the guidelines of recommending only compositions or generic medicines.

This move is intended to safeguard the interest of poor patients, who otherwise cough up a huge sum for buying medicines of specific brands. The doctors usually get commissions for recommending these expensive brands.

The hospital authorities are planning to scan the prescriptions at the Niramaya (free medicine store of Odisha Government) counters and other stores that supply medicines under various schemes.

These scanned copies would be kept by the stores for audit by the hospital authorities and action would be taken against doctors that violate these guidelines.

The hospital management have issued a circular to all doctors from different departments on this count.
