President cuts short Odisha visit due to wife’s illness

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7:

President Pranab Mukherjee tonight cut short his two-day visit to Odisha after getting information about his wife’s illness who is admitted to a hospital.

According to sources, Pranab Mukherjee’s wife– Suvra– was hospitalised in a New Delhi hospital today following illness which forced President to wind up his visit a day before.

Mukherjee had offered his prayers at the Jagannath temple this evening at 6 pm as per schedule.

Earlier in the day, Mukherjee inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations of Rameswar High school in Khordha.

Governor SC Jamir, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, Editor of Odia daily ‘Sambad’ Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, former MP and chairperson of National Commission for Women Jayanti Patnaik and former MLA Dillip Srichandan were also present on the occasion.

Tomorrow, he was scheduled to inaugurate the second annual convocation of National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) in Cuttack. He was also scheduled to inaugurate the all-India seminar on ‘Global Legal Education’ being organized by the Confederation of Indian Bar and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Bhubaneswar.
