Prisoners lodged in jails in Odisha to be vaccinated for Covid-19

Bhubaneswar: Prisoners lodged in different jails in Odisha will be inoculated with the Covid vaccine. The State government decided prisoners above 60 years of age and prisoners within the age bracket of 45 and 59 with specified co-morbidities will be vaccinated.

In a letter, the Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services directed the Superintendents of all jails in the State to take immediate steps for Covid vaccination of the categorized prisoners.

The jail Superintendents were also asked to consult with Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) and Public Health Officials (PHOs) and district authorities about the vaccination of prisoners.

The letter further asked the jail officials to follow security protocols and Covid guidelines of the Government during the vaccination progarmme.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) directed the States and Union Territories to inoculate persons above 60 years and those above 45 with specified co-morbidities from March 1 in the second phase of Covid vaccination programme.

In the first phase, the Centre asked the States and UTs to vaccinate healthcare workers and frontline workers in the fight against Covid pandemic.
