Private bus strike in Odisha from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Private buses in the State will remain off the roads from tomorrow for an indefinite period as talks between office bearers of All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBOA) and the Transport Minister over their longstanding demands remained inconclusive today.

Spokesperson of AOPBOA Debasish Nayak informed that the Association at its executive committee meeting decided to stick to its earlier decision for an indefinite bus strike from 6 AM tomorrow as talks with Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu could not reach a conclusion.

The executive committee of the AOPBOA met immediately after its discussions with the Transport Minister nearly failed.

However, school and town buses have been excluded from the strike.

An estimated over 17,000 private buses will remain off the roads causing inconvenience to commuters.

Notably, the AOPBOA had on February 19 threatened to go on strike from March 14 if the government failed to fulfill its demands as we reported here.
