Probe begins into rape of four-year-old school girl in Odisha capital

Investigation into the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl on the school premises in Odisha capital began today as a three-member team comprising officials of Khordha Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Child Line visited the educational institution.

The team held discussions with the school authorities and questioned some of its staff, sources said.

Notably, the victim studying at a private English medium school at Gangapada under Chandaka police limits here was allegedly raped by Bijay Maharana, driver of the bus operated by the school, on August 25.

The matter came to light after the girl studying in Kinder Garten (KG) II narrated the ordeal to her parents. The parents lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station following which the driver and helper of the school bus were detained and subjected to marathon grilling.

A day after the deplorable incident, Commissionerate police had arrested Maharana and forwarded him to court. The accused was booked under Sections 376 (2) (1) of the IPC.
