Progressive farmer from Odisha mentored by ICAR-IIWM receives national award

New Delhi: Progressive farmer Radhashyam Biswal of Lokapala village of Kanas block in Puri district brought laurels for Odisha after being bestowed with National Award “IARI Innovative Farmer Award – 2023”.

Biswal received this award from Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary during the concluding day of the “Pusa Krishi Mela” held at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi recently.

Notably, Biswal received all technical guidance, support and was mentored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management (IIWM), Bhubaneswar.

Biswal was able to increase his farm income from Rs. 2,16,000 per annum in 2015-16 to Rs. 7,40,000 per annum in 2021-22 during a period of five years. He adopted scientific crop production technologies in rice, pulses, vegetables, dairy, poultry, fishery, mushroom production and farm mechanization besides agricultural water management technologies of ICAR-IIWM. He has also shown stewardship and leadership quality in guiding and helping farmers of Kanas block in increasing farm productivity and enhancing income.

On this occasion, the scientists and staff of the institute besides the Director of the Institute Dr. Arjamadutta Sarangi greeted Radhashyam Biswal and apprehended that his success will definitely encourage other farmers of Odisha to showcase their success stories and apply for IARI Innovative farmers Award.
