Eggs hurled at BJP’s meeting in Odisha’s Pipli; one detained

Tension gripped Pipili toll plaza here after eggs were hurled at a protest meeting held by BJP activists despite imposition of Section 144 of CrPC by the local administration.

The BJP workers staged a road blockade on National Highway following the incident. However, police picked up the agitators thereby clearing the roadblock.

Police have detained a person in connection with the egg hurling at the meeting, sources said.

Earlier in the day, section 144 of CrPC was imposed at the Pipili market from 10 AM to 3 PM apprehending law and order situation due to protest meetings organised by BJD and BJP in Pipili over hurling of eggs at their leaders.

While the saffron party called for a protest meeting here opposing the hurling of eggs at party leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar’s car near Pipili toll gate on Sunday, the conch party called for a protest meeting over the hurling of eggs at Odisha Agriculture Minister and BJD leader Pradeep Maharathy’s car in Balangir on September 14.

It was alleged that some BJD workers hurled eggs at Samantsinghar. Similarly, some BJP activists had allegedly hurled eggs at Maharathy.
