Public hearing for RSP expansion stalled amid protests

The Sundargarh district administration had to adjourn public hearing for expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) midway today, following disturbances between those opposed to the expansion and those in favour.

Public hearing for expansion of hot strip mill and hot plate mill of RSP was being held at Fertilizer Township when the disturbance took place forcing ADM Sundargarh Rabindranath Mishra to adjourn the hearing. Mishra was chairing the hearing.

The public hearing for expansion of RSP has been postponed for a month, Mishra said.

While supporters of Birmitrapur MLA George Tirkey were in support of the expansion, supporters of Raghunathpalli MLA Subrat Tarai opposed the expansion.
