Puri admin makes arrangements for 3,000 Habisyalis

Puri: Ahead of the beginning of holy month ‘Kartik’ from Monday, the Puri district administration has made elaborate arrangements for 3,000 Habisyalis who will perform ‘Habisa’ (a ritual performed mostly by widows) during the month. Puri Collector Balwant Singh today chaired a review meeting in connection with this at Town Hall in the pilgrim city.

According to reports, arrangements have been made for 900 Habisyalis in the premises of Railway Tourism office, 600 in Puri Municipal Kalyan Mandap and 1,500 in Narendrakona centre. A total of four supervising officials, four coordinating officials, 12 nodal officials and 40 employees have been deployed to take care of the Habisyalis.

Puja, lodging, Mahaprasad, drinking water, first aid and security arrangements for the Habisyalis have been made at these centres. Also, two buses have been kept ready at Puri railway station to ferry Habisyalis to the centres, said one district administration official.

So far 1,727 Habisyalis have registered themselves with the district administration to avail the facilities at these centres.
