Puri: Shree Jagannatha Temple to remain open on Sundays too

Puri: The restrictions imposed by the Puri district administration on visit of devotees to the Shree Jagannatha Temple on Sundays will be withdrawn from March 20. A decision regarding this was taken at a meeting of the Chhatisa Nijog today evening.

Puri District Collector Samarth Verma told media persons the temple will remain open on Sundays from March 20. The devotees will be able to pay obeisance to deities from the time of opening of Singhadwara till ‘pahada’ (closure of the door) every day, Verma added.

The sanitisation work which has been carried out Sundays will be done on night hours, as per the unanimous decision taken in the Chhatisa Nijog meeting.

Even though the restriction on visit of devotees has been withdrawn, they need to follow the Covid appropriate behavior such as wearing of masks, maintaining of social distance and hand santising.

The main agenda of the Chhatisa Nijog’s meeting was to finalise ritual timings for Dola Purnima and changes in SOP for the public darshan.

The Collector also informed a niti sub-committee will be formed to ensure there is no delay in the temple rituals.
