The store was open from 9:30 AM till 3:30 PM front of Chandrasekharpur Petrol Pump of the city and witnessed as many as 640 shoppers.

“Our second @TheStreetStore was a BIG success. THIS BIG!! 640 people shopped! Can’t thank everyone who supported enough!,” tweeted Director of Radio Choklate and curator of “The Street Store-Bhubaneswar’ Tanaya Patnaik after the event.

Thousands of clothes were seen hanging at the venue in an orderly fashion with separate sections for kids, men and women and uniformed attendants for each section, giving an impression of a one of its kind open-air shopping mall.

The enthusiasm among the organizers and the shoppers had to be seen to be believed. The shoppers were seen thronging the store happily checking out clothes, helping themselves with the right ones while some were seen trying clothes out to ensure a perfect fit. Many of the poor and homeless visitors flocked the city from distant places as well.

“I am from Dhenkanal.  I came here with my husband and elder daughter after hearing about the announcement of The Street Store on Radio Choklate. We found two pairs of dresses for ourselves. Now I am trying to find the right clothes for my in-laws and other two daughters,” said Sujata Nayak who attended the street store yesterday.

“I am from Berhampur. My elder sister told me about The Street Sstore. I expected them to be used or torn clothes. However, I see almost every other cloth on offer is new. I picked up two nice pairs for myself,” said Sarita Jena.

Quite like professional sales assistants, the volunteers were seen helping the visitors politely with their shopping experience by helping them make a choice, pack the goods in paper bags and note down their contact details.

‘The Street Store’ is the world’s first rent-free, premises-free and pop-up clothing store where the homeless choose whatever they like without having to pay anything. This was the 180th street store worldwide.

It may be noted that, Radio Choklate had earlier organized India’s first street store on September 23, 2014 in Bhubaneswar.
