It may be mentioned that the Health department and the district administration had earlier served notice to the centre and its ultra sound unit on November last year on the basis of the complaints received.  However, the centre authorities had not responded to the notice.

The officials and staffs of the centre were not able to produce necessary supporting documents for 25 of their units such as IVF laboratory, OT, injection room, doctor’s chamber, ultra sound chamber etc during the raid.

The raiding team also found out that the centre had not been registered under Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.

“Srushti Test Tube Baby Centre should have registered under PCPNDT Act. However, it had not done so. It claims to have registered out of Odisha, which again is not true. The centre authorities couldn’t produce any document to support their claim during the raid,” said Ajit Mohanty, nodal officer of the Health and Family Welfare department.

Talking to the media, Marketing manager of the centre Biraja Prasad Ray said the IVF centre has been registered.

“We had applied for it in Delhi. The raiding team questioned us about local registration. We will try to register it in Odisha soon. The ultrasound unit has also been registered. There is no show cause notice issued to us regarding the IVF centre operating without registration neither by the Health department and nor by the district administration,” he added.

The raiding team was comprised of additional tehsildar Biswanath Sahu; ADMO Ramesh Mohanty; PCPNDT’s legal counsellor Manoranjan Pradhan; PNDT’s facilitator Shrabani Das and Subash Mohapatra.
