Railway station in Odisha capital brought under CCTV surveillance

In its bid to boost security, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) today commissioned a closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system at the railway station in Odisha’s capital city.

ECoR general manager Rajiv Vishnoi inspected the railway station and reviewed CCTV surveillance system installed at various places of the station.CCTV

A total of 32 IP-based surveillance cameras have been installed at the entrance and exit points and certain areas inside the station premises.

The access to the footage of the surveillance cameras has also been extended to passenger reservation system (PRS) counters, booking office, concourse, 2nd Class waiting hall and free on board (FOB) to help keep a vigil on various suspicious activities and ensure better safety of passengers while safeguarding Railway properties.

The feeds from these cameras reach the centralised control room of the station, where the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel monitor the visuals round-the-clock.

Apart from recording and playback facility, the video data can be stored for 30 days.

Of the 32 cameras, 13 are panning cameras while the remaining 19, including dome cameras, are fixed.

This surveillance system will help the security personnel to track the anti-social elements in the platform and circulating areas of the station.

To minimise inconvenience to passengers and to avoid rush at the entry and exit points, crowd management can be easily handled out due to installation of the CCTV surveillance system.

Apart from this, the cleanliness of the station premises will also be monitored.

Cleanliness of platforms and circulating areas including railway track in the station areas are being chased up to make the station clean and hygienic.

Among others, SH Safdar, Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer, SK Mishra , Chief Security Commissioner, ECoR, SK Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road and Dr AK Patnaik, Chief Health Director were present on the occasion.
