Bhubaneswar: In view of the rush in regular trains during this winter, Indian Railways has decided to run 16 winter special trains to different destinations under the jurisdiction of East Coast Railway (ECoR) from January 1 to April 1.
However, two trains- Kolkata-Puri Special and Visakhapatnam-Araku Special-have already started their journey from December 23.
Railways took the decision after reviewing the long waiting lists in regular trains. With this, waitlisted passengers, who plan their holiday journey at the last moment especially during winter, can avail confirmed tickets in these special trains.
The Railways have started running Santragachi-Coimbatore special, Sambalpur-Banswadi (Bengaluru) special and Chennai Central-Santragachi special from January 1 . It also started the Bhubaneswar -Secunderabad special from today. Santragachi-Chennai Central Special, Puri-Santragachi Special Fare Weekly Special, Shalimar-Puri-Santragachi Weekly AC Special and Hatia-Bangalore Cant Special will be functional from January 3.
Similarly, Puducherry-Santragachi Special and Kacheguda-Srikakulam Road Special will start running from January 4 and 5, respectively. Railways will run Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Special and Kacheguda-Tatanagar Weekly Special Train from January 6 and two other trains-Kacheguda-Srikakulam Special and Visakhapatnam-Secundarabad Weekly Special from January 7.
Passengers can book their tickets online on IRCTC website, its mobile app or at the PRS counters.
