Rain wreaks havoc in Odisha district

Koraput, Aug 3:

Jeypore and Borigumma blocks of Odisha’s Koraput district were the worst-hit in the incessant rains that lashed the district between July 27 and July 29 with at least 235 houses, four bridges and 10 small culverts damaged, said the district emergency officer Koraput Rameswar Pradhan.

The officer said 127 houses in Jeypore block, 107 in Borigumma and one house in Koraput block have been completely damaged in the in the downpour according to preliminary assessment reports

“Our field staff are on the job. However, we are yet to receive the crop loss report. Once we get the detailed report it will be sent to the government for necessary action”, Pradhan said.

After Parli river overflowed due to torrential rains, the road communication between Koraput and Nabarangpur was snapped.

In Borigumma block itself, three bridges had been damaged due to the rains while in Dasmantpur block one culvert has been damaged, the officer informed.
