Rainy August for Odisha: Another low pressure likely around 13th/14th of this month

Bhubaneswar: While a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 7, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the bay may host another Low Pressure Area around 13th/14th of this month.

“Another low pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around 13th/14th August. It is also likely to intensify into a depression over north Bay of Bengal,” the IMD said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

Regarding the Low Pressure Area which is likely to form around August 7, the IMD said the forecasted system has a ‘low’ probability of intensifying into a depression.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards and its remnant is likely to emerge into Arabian Sea, it said.

With two back-to-back Low Pressure Areas over Bay of Bengal on the cards, Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall, this month.

“Under influence of gradual strengthening of monsoon flow and the anticipated Low Pressure Area, rainfall activity is very likely to increase gradually from 5th August and widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur during 6th to 10th August over the districts of Odisha,” the Regional Meteorological Centre here said.
