Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Feb 8:

Ramadevi autonomous college was recently upgraded into a women’s university. But, a lot of unanswered questions have arisen due to negligence by the Odisha Higher Education department.

A notification by the state government on May 30, 2015 announced the formation of Ramadevi Women’s University.

On June 9, 2015, a Higher Education department notification said that all staffers of Ramadevi autonomous college will be included in the University. It further said that all women colleges currently under Utkal University will be affiliated to Ramadevi University.

The question now is that what happened to Ramadevi autonomous college affiliated to Utkal University, if it comes under Ramadevi University then who is its in-charge? The graduates as well as the post graduate students are getting the same benefits. The employees here are still clueless whether they are working for the university or autonomous college.

The state government has also not clarified the position of the university and guided the smooth transition from autonomous college to university even Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated the University seven months after it was instituted.

Ramadevi Junior College and University are in the same campus due to lack of infrastructure. For graduate and post graduate students’ different uniforms assimilating the women colleges which were under Utkal University with Ramadevi University, student union elections have become issues of concern for the authorities.

Notably, Ramadevi Women’s Autonomous College has been upgraded to Ramadevi Women’s University in 2014.  For this in 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 financial year Rs 52 crore would be made available under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to Ramadevi Women’s University. Even after the university has deposited a proposal of Rs 52 crores, the funds have not been released.
