An unbeaten 109 by Parthiv Patel put Gujarat in a commanding position against Odisha on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Group-A match here on Sunday.
At draw of stumps, the hosts were 287 for 3.
Winning the toss and lecting to bat, the Gujarat batsmen began cautiously. Both the openers SB Gohil (27) and PK Panchal (31) gave the team a good start.
BH Merai played a confident knock of 45 before being dismissed by J Behera.
However, Parthiv (109 n.o.) and Y Venugopal Rao (68) defied the Odisha attack and registered an unbeaten partnership of 146 runs by the close of play.
For Odisha, J Behera and captain Biplab Samanatray claimed two and one wicket respectively.
