Rare surgery: Docs remove fish stuck in youth’s throat in Odisha

In a huge achievement in field of surgery, doctors successfully pulled out a live fish stuck in a youth’s throat in Odisha.

The entire credit goes to the senior consultant of ENT department Dr Sanjeev Gupta and his junior consultant Dr Suryakant Pradhan of Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar, who removed the fish from throat of a young man through surgery.

According to report, the fish accidentally went straight into mouth of the youth of Podadhia village in Balasore district while he was fishing on April 23. After he developed suffocation, breathlessness and even he was not able to talk, he was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. However, the doctors failed to remove the fish there. Later, he was brought to Apollo where he was attended by Dr Gupta and Dr Pradhan.

He was immediately taken to emergency Operation Theatre (OT), where the doctors conducted the major surgery with help of a mouth gag and forcep. They successfully removed the live fish from his throat.

The condition of the patient is stable. He will be provided food through tube in next ten days, said Dr Gupta.
