Bhubaneswar, Apr 23:

Taking strong exception to the Commissionerate Police’s act of registering only a case of ‘unnatural death’ in the case of Basant Mohanty, a resident of Badagada in the city whose body was found from Daya River under Balianta police limits on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on April 20, his family members have claimed that it was a clear case of murder by some local goons.

Prashant Mohanty, brother of the deceased along with the family members, today lodged an FIR regarding this matter at the Balianta police station seeking a thorough investigation into the matter by the commissionerate police.

“On April 21, I approached the Balianta police outpost to lodge a missing report of my brother, who had left home on April 18, did not return to the house for three days. The same day, the police informed me that they have traced a body from Daya river and asked me to come to Capital hospital for identification,” said the brother of the deceased.

“The police told me that they have registered a case of unnatural death, which is totally false,” Prashant said.

“The next day, one of my relatives Ashok Mohanty alias Mangulia said that he along with three of his friends (Ganesh, Bubuna and Felu) had come to my house on a four0wheeler and had taken Basant with them to attend a party at around 12.30 pm on April 18. Mangulia returned to his house the same night, but Basant didn’t,” continued Prashant.

“I also came to know from Mangulia that they had a heated argument on some atter on April 18 night. Therefore, I strongly suspect that my brother has been murdered. It was a pre-planned murder. His friends were involved in the heinous crime,” he alleged.

“Today, I approached Balianta police station again and lodged an FIR demanding the immedaite arrest of the culprits involved in killing of my brother. The killers are still moving freely on the streets. I want the police to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the truth behind the mystery,” he said.

On being contacted, Balianta police said that the matter was still under investigation. “We are yet to get the autopsy report from the Capital police station and will investigate the matter after receiving it,” the Balianta outpost investigating officer Manoranjan Nayak said.
