Red fear: Families flee homes in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar: Four families of Kurub village under Kalimela police station limits in Odisha’s Malkangiri district have fled their hearth and home out of fear of Maoists.

Allegedly these families were often threatened by the Red rebels who suspected them to be police informers.

Apprehending threat to their lives, on Saturday these families walked for over 40 km under the cover of night and have taken shelter in houses of their relatives.

While two families have taken shelter at Kodel Metla village, the other two families have taken shelter at Mandapalli.

“They threatened us to leave the village. They even threatened us with our lives. For that reason we left the village to save our lives,” a member of the victim family.

“Yesterday four families from Kurub village under Kalimela police limits have fled their homes. They were threatened by Maoists. They have presently taken shelter in houses of their relatives. We will send their details to the Collectorate. We will provide them with all help under government’s welfare schemes applicable to them,” informed Jagmohan Meena, S P Malkangiri briefing reporters on the incident.
