As per sources, armed cadres were seen frequenting Jareikela, Bhalulata, Manoharpur, Topadihi, Renjada and Karampada villages close to Jharkhand border. The members of the outlawed group have been motivating the villagers to come forward and support their movement.

Since last 5-6 months, these activities have witnessed a rising trend. Scores of senior rebels from neighbouring states have entered into villages sharing border with Jharkhand. They have launched a campaign to reinduct the old cadres apart from recruitment of new members.

Besides, the senior zonal committee members from Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have been regrouping to intensify their movement, sources said.

Till two years back, Bonai sub-division along with Langalkata, Bisra, Lathikata and Bondamunda police stations areas were affected by Maoist-related violence originating from Saranda forest. But, an anti-Maoist operation headed by the then Rourkela SP Diptesh Patnaik had restricted the spreading tentacles of the Maoists. The security forces had busted a Maoist camp following which a heavy exchange of fire ensued during the raid which compelled the Reds to retreat. Though no Maoist was arrested, several rebels were reported to have been injured in the operation.

While adequate security measures have been taken to shield the porous and vulnerable border areas, the recent rise in Maoist activities in the region has become a cause of concern for the villagers.

In a recent breakthrough, two dreaded Maoists belonging to Chhotanagpur Zonal Committee had surrendered before the Additional Superintendent of Police, Bonai range of Odisha Police on December 22. The ultras were identified as Ramsoy Munda alias Padia (22) and Aju Champia alias Manduru (25). Both belong to Kiriburu area under West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Both were recruited by Gunga Munda of Chhotanagpur Maoist Zonal Committee in 2011 and were active in Odisha-Jharkhand border areas, police had said.

This apart on October 25, Maoist cadres including four women had surrendered at the K Balang police station in the Bonai sub division of Sundargarh district.
