Regional Science Congress kicks off at KIIT varsity

Bhubaneswar, Jan 27 :

The Regional Science Congress kicked off at the KIIT University on Monday with eminent scientists and around 500 delegates participating in the convention.

Organised by Indian Science Congress Association, Bhubaneswar Chapter and hosted by Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) and KIIT University, the theme of this prestigious science meet is ‘Innovations in Science & Technology for Inclusive Development’.Regional Science Congress at KIIT

Prof. S. B. Nimse, General President (Elect), India Science Congress association ( ISCA), Prof. Arun Kumar, General Secretary (Scientific Activities), ISCA; Dr. Achyuta Samanta Founder, KIIT & KISS; Dr. A. K. Saxena, Former General Secretary, ISCA; Prof. P P Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University and Dr. B. K. Mishra, Director, IMMT, Bhubaneswar graced the inaugural ceremony on Monday.

At the inaugural session, eminent speakers focused on the popularisation of science and technology and development of rural sector. Science can help solve problems like scarcity of drinking water and low agricultural productivity, they said.

Speaking of the occasion, Dr Achyuta Samanta stressed on the need to focus on quality education at primary level in order to develop Science. Laboratories need to be set up in primary schools to give impetus to science education, he said.Regional Science Congress at KIIT

Citing the example of KISS, he said, students from this institute are successful in National Children Science Congress every year because they are taught Science right from the primary level. School of Biotechnology of KIIT University organizes ISPIRE Programme to encourage young students in 10th and 12th standard, he added.

Among others, Dr. J. K. Panigrahi, Convener, ISCA Bhubaneswar Chapter,Dr. S. M. Ali, Organizing Secretary, Dr. Sasmita Samata, Registrar, KIIT University, Dr. A. K. Nayak, Registrar, NISER, Dr. Bijaylaxmi Saxena, former general secretary ISCA, Dr. A. K. Dey, executive secretary,  ISCA and Dr. Arun Kumar Pandey, Jt. Secretary ISCA were also present on the session.

Eminent scientsts and scholars who are participating in this convention will be delivering talks on several topics in different technical sessions, a release by KIIT University said.
