The Appellate Tribunal on Electricity (ATE) has rejected the plea of Reliance Infra for a stay on the recent decision of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to cancel the licenses of the three distribution companies (discoms) owned by it.

While admitting the Reliance petition filed last week, the Tribunal yesterday asked OERC and the Odisha government to file their replies by March 17 and posted the hearing in the case for March 24..

“Reliance had moved the Tribunal seeking the quashing of the OERC order cancelling the licenses of the three distribution companies and asking for a stay on the order. But the Tribunal, while admitting the appeal, declined to issue a stay on the order and posted hearing in the case for March 24,” OERC secretary GK Dhal said.

In a decision of far-reaching consequence, OERC had cancelled the licenses of Wesco, Southco and Nesco, the three discoms owned by Reliance Infra, on March 4 on the grounds of ‘unsatisfactory performance.’
