Section 144 of CrPC imposed in the town was relaxed today from 8 am to 2 pm and later extended to 4 pm for immersion of the idols.

Adhering to the decision of the Peace Committee taken yesterday, the immersions were held between 9 am and 11 am today without any procession, sources said.

In order to avoid any untoward incident during immersion of idols, 19 platoons of police force were deployed, sources added.

Notably, two groups had clashed on September 10 night when immersion procession was passing through Pathan Mahalla in Soro market. An altercation ensued between two groups followed by brick-batting, stone and bottle pelting in which at least five people were injured.

The incident had resulted in tension and violence in the town following which Section 144 of CrPC was imposed here.

Further, curfew was imposed in the town twice– from 6 pm to 6 am on Monday and from 6 pm to 6 am on Tuesday.

As many as 15 persons have been arrested and cases have been registered against more than 100 persons in different police stations in six cases in connection with the group clash and violence.
