Remarkable cut in Special Central Assistance to Odisha in 2020-21

New Delhi: The Centre released significantly lesser funds to Odisha under the Special Central Assistance (SCA) Scheme in 2020-21 financial year as compared to three previous financial years.

As per the data provided by Minister of State for Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy in a written reply to question in the Lok Sabha, the State received Rs 14.25 crore in 2020-21 financial year.

Odisha received Rs 10 crore in 2017-18, Rs 66.67 crore in 2018-19, Rs 66.66 crore under the Centre’s special assistance scheme.

The Union Minister further mentioned the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts, covered under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme, were reviewed in April-2018.

There are 15 districts of Odisha under the SRE scheme with effect from April 1, 2018. These districts are Angul, Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Kandhmal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabrangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambhalpur and Sundargarh, the Union Minister stated.

Of these, seven districts namely Boudh, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Angul, Deogarh, Nabarangpur and Sundargarh have reported no LWE violence incidents in 2020, the Union Minister’s reply pointed out.
