Repair Sri Mandir Roshasala on war footing: Commission

Puri: Justice B P Das Commission of Inquiry for Reforms in Sri Mandir today directed Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in writing to complete renovation of the Roshasala (kitchen) before Lords return to the temple after their nine-day sojourn to Gundicha temple.

The Commission after its inspection of the Roshasala had verbally advised the SJTA to immediately take up repair and renovation of its floor and drainage system while stressing on sanitation inside the premises.

The Commission has also advised the SJTA for immediate revamp of sanitation at the place inside the Roshasala where khaja (a crispy sweetmeat offered to the Lords) is prepared.

“There is no problem in the structure. But one thing, the floor, and sanitation are in very bad shape. The flooring and sanitation need immediate attention. I have mentioned that in my report. I had been to the place where khaja is prepared. The condition of that place is very bad. It has everything from paan spit to mud. The temple administration needs to pay attention to that. Temple administration has assured to take up remedial measures,” informed retired Justice B P Das to reporters.

Justice Das said the Commission would submit another interim report to the state government in November.

Notably, the Commission had submitted its first interim report to the government on April 20, this year.

It may be mentioned here that the state government after receiving much flak over the Niladri Bije fiasco in 2016 had constituted a one-member judicial commission to be headed by former High Court Justice Bimal Prasad Das to bring reforms in the management of Sri Mandir.
