Respite from heatwave as mercury dips in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm along with showers across Odisha brought much needed respite for the people of the state from scorching heatwave as mercury crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark at one place only.

Sonepur recorded the highest temperature of the day with 41.2 degree Celsius, followed by Talcher (39.3), Sundargarh (38) and Malkangiri (36.5).

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the onset of monsoon in Odisha is likely to be delayed as it is expected to hit Kerala coast on June 6.

A cyclonic circulation between 3.6 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level over West central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts persists, a bulletin of the IMD said.
