Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions on plying of heavy vehicles in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during the evening hours.

As per an order issued by the Commissionerate Police, no goods carrier (truck or trailer having six wheels or more) shall be allowed to ply on the National Highway and State Highway in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from 5 pm to 7.30 pm during the evening hours.

No heavy vehicle will be allowed to ply on the NH and SH from Pitapalli towards Bhubaneswar and from Manguli towards Cuttack from 5 pm to 7.30 pm, said the order.

The restrictions have been imposed by virtue of powers conferred under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003 (Odisha Act 8 of 2007) and in pursuance of Regulation 34 (1) of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.

The restrictions will come into force from September 5. However, goods carriers engaged in essential and emergency duty shall be excluded from the restrictions, said an official.

The restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles have been imposed in view of traffic congestion on the NH and SH from Cosmopolis Square to Hanspal Square in Bhubaneswar and from Sikharpur Square to Madhupatna Square in Cuttack during the evening hours, added the official.
