Retired clerk convicted in graft case after 16-year trial in Odisha

Berhampur: A retired senior clerk-cum-accountant of a government-run hospital in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been convicted for misappropriation of funds after 16-year long trial.

I Raja Rao, who worked in City Hospital here, has been convicted by Court of Special Judge of Vigilance here today. The court sentenced him to undergo two year’s rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, and to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 3 months in default of payment of fine.

Rao has been convicted under 13 (1) (c) r/w 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, Vigilance sources said.

Notably, Rao was facing trial in a 16-year-old case registered in 2014 on charges of misappropriation of government money amounting to Rs 2, 68, 859 collected towards user charges and other funds in the hospital.
