Retired Odisha SP polishes shoes free of cost ; know why

Balasore: Much to everyone’s dismay, a retired Vigilance SP was seen polishing shoes in front of the SP office here yesterday as a mark of protest alleging negligence in duty on the part of Odisha police.

Ujjwal Kumar Bramha, who retired as Bhubaneswar Vigilance SP in February 2010, was seen sitting under a tree in front of the SP office here throughout the day and polishing shoes of common people free of cost alleging corruption in the SP office. Reportedly, he has been staging this unique protest in front of all Government offices here since Gandhi Jayanti.

Bramha, who had also served in general police for around 10 years, alleged that police officials are not discharging their duties earnestly these days.

“I have served as the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Rajgangpur police station, Raiboga and Bandamunda PSs and Tensa police outpost. I used to enjoy my job serving  the people back then. But these days, the cops do not even reach office on time, forget about efficiency and integrity,” said Brahma, adding that the existing police policy is corrupt one.

Bramha further said that after observing the lackadaisical attitude of the police personnel in the state for years, the Government finally came up with the 5T model of governance recently.

Meanwhile, this unique protest by the retired cop has been hailed by one and all in the district.
