RIL holds ICC World Cup Trophy preview ceremony in Odisha’s capital

Reliance Communications Limited (RIL), India’s fully-integrated telecommunications service provider, today announced its association as ‘Global Partner’ for the 11th edition of the ICC World Cup tournament, to be held in New Zealand and Australia from February next year.

The company, which was associated as a ‘Global Partner’ for ICC events since the first ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, also announced a series of service offerings for its customers for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2015 as a part of the partnership for the tournament, which is scheduled to be held from February 14 to March 29.

Cricket fans will get an exclusive glimpse of the trophy and an opportunity to get photographs clicked with it. They can also send best wishes to the Indian cricket team and participate in contests specially designed for this event and win exciting prizes.

Speaking at the preview ceremony held at the KIIT stadium in the state capital here, Gurdeep Singh, chief executive officer, Consumer Business, RIL, said “As a ‘Global Partner’ of ICC until 2015, we are proud to be associated with the most popular game in the country, which has also been growing in popularity worldwide. On the occasion, Dr Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT and KISS was felicitated by Reliance Communications.

Expressing his satisfaction, Samanta said it is a matter of pride for KIIT and KISS that Reliance Communication has chosen KIIT Stadium for World Cup Trophy preview ceremony in Odisha for first time.

The event was part of exclusive preview road shows across India.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy was designed and manufactured in London by Garrard, the Crown Jewellers.

Crafted in silver and gilt, the 64-cm high trophy features a golden globe held aloft by three silver columns. The globe is presented in the form of a stylised cricket ball while the columns, styled as stumps and bails, represent the three essential pillars of the game – batting, bowling and fielding.

Valued at over £40,000 and weighing in excess of 11 kilos, the trophy has been designed in platonic dimensions to ensure its uniqueness is instantly recognised no matter from which angle it is viewed.

ICC has adopted the 1999 Cricket World Cup Trophy as its perpetual prize and the six previous Champions have been acknowledged on inscription plates on its base.
