Rishi murder: Mother urges Odisha CM for CBI probe

Bhubaneswar: Alleging tardy progress in police investigation into the death of engineering student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi, his mother urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to order a CBI probe into the sensational case.

Preetirani Mohanty, mother of Rishi, today wrote a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik requesting him to direct a CBI inquiry into the matter.

On July 03, the Orissa High Court had directed the Twin City Commissionerate police to submit case diary (CD) of the much-talked-about case after one of his friends, Anurag Mohapatra, had moved the High Court.

Reports said that Rishi had spent night with his roommates having party at mess on May 5, 2016. His friends informed Khandagiri police after he did not wake up from his sleep in the morning and rushed him to Capital Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The preliminary investigation said that Rishi died due to excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs. However, the case turned critical after a controversial sex video-tape went viral featuring Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and a woman. The opposition members and others claimed that the video tape was linked with death of Rishi.

The Rishi death case had created a huge uproar in the political circles in the State with opposition political parties seeking immediate arrest and resignation of the Mayor.
