Road mishap claims lives of two students in Odisha’s Rourkela

While going on a ride, their bike hit a pedestrian on NH 143 near Puran slum. As their vehicle collided with the divider after that, the duo fell and were run over by a speeding truck.

Rourkela: Two students died after they were run over by a truck in Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district here today. The deceased were identified as Rana Anshuman Singh of Rangila Chowk area in the city, and Saili Munda  of Jalda. While Saili was a Class 10 student, Anshuman was reading in Class 12. Sources said on Friday night, the duo had borrowed a bullet bike from an acquaintance.

While going on a ride, their bike hit a pedestrian on NH 143 near Puran slum. As their vehicle collided with the divider after that, the duo fell and were run over by a speeding truck. While Anshuman died on the spot, Saili was critically injured. Police reached the spot and rushed him to a private hospital where he succumbed during treatment. The accused truck driver however managed to flee the spot.

Following the incident, tension ran high in the area as local residents demanded immediate arrest of the truck driver and compensation for the kin of the deceased. They were pacified after police assured them of immediate action. The bullet bearing registration number OD-14-K-1670 has been seized and investigation is underway, Jalda police informed.
