Road traffic hit in Gajapati as locals block NH seeking compensation for kin of accident victims

Paralakhemundi: Road traffic between Berhampur, Mohana and Paralakhemundi was disrupted for a while today as family members of two deceased, who died in a road accident yesterday, staged road blockades at separate places on NH-326 and 326 A .

Last evening, two persons were killed after the motorcycle they were riding on hit a car near Kapuripata village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district last evening. While one died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at hospital.However, the car driver fled the spot with the vehicle after the mishap.

Irate over the mishap, family members of the deceased along with other locals staged protest on national highway demanding compensation. Vehicular movements were disrupted on NH- 326 and 326 A due to the protest with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.

The road blockades were withdrawn after a team of Mohan police reached the spot and pacified the agitators.
