Road traffic paralysed in Bhubaneswar as BMC sanitation workers hit streets

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high in the State Capital early this morning after contractual sanitation workers of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) blocked the Nandankanan-Airport road at Jaydev Vihar Square here demanding payment of pending salary.

Vehicular traffic on the stretch came to a grinding halt for around an hour after the protesters blocked the road by forming a human chain and burning tyres as part of their protest.

Shockingly, a police personnel pulled out his service revolver to threaten the mob in a bid to disperse them from the main square, sources said.

Later, the road traffic was restored after the cops brought the situation under control and cleared the blockade.
