Robbers gang arrested in Odisha capital, looted jewellery recovered

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12:

In a major breakthrough, Commissionerate Police busted a four member gang of hard-core criminals today while the gang members were engaged in distributing jewellery looted from a shop in the Odisha capital near the Lingaraj Road railway station here.

The criminals were identified as Babu Khan (22) of Jalwa village in West Bengal, Bapi Biswal alias Tukuna Panda (32) of Koligoan village in Baleswar district, Tiki Khan alias Tikina (23) of Nuagaon village in Kendrapara district and Sk Qutabuddin (37) of Naikudi village of West Bengal, all presently staying at Banafula basti under Laxmisagar police limits.

Acting on a tip off, Chandrasekhapur IIC, along with his staff, raided the place where the booty was being shared and nabbed the gang today. The stolen gold and diamond jewellery have been recovered from them, police said.

This gang of criminals has been committing crimes in the city for the last ten years. Tukuna has a track record of using fire arms and explosives during commission of crimes and is also involved in criminal cases of Baleswar district, police said.

Babu has 14 cases registered against him in different police stations in the city, while 27 cases have been registered against Tukuna. Tiki is involved in four cases at Nayapalli and Laxmisagar police stations while Sk Qutabuddin’s antecedents are under verifications, police added.

Police have registered two separate cases-182 and 184 against the accused slapping charges under sections 457, 380 of IPC against them .
