Patnagarh, July 14:

Armed robbers looted around 20 tolas of gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash and left one person injured at Ghagurli village under Belapada block in Odisha’s Balangir district, police said today.

Six miscreants astride three motorcycles  knocked at young businessman Majuram Agarwal’s residence at Ghagurli village under Belapada block and asked for water at around 8 pm on Sunday evening.

After quenching their thirst, they asked Majuram for money and on his refusal to part with money, they fired at him, police sources said.

Later, they obtained the keys of the locker located upstairs from Majuram’s son Suraj allegedly at gun point and decamped with 20 tolas of gold and Rs 5 lakh in cash.

Majuram, who was grievously hurt with a bullet injury on his chest, was first taken to the hospital at Patnagarh and was later shifted to the VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla as his condition deteriorated, police sources said.

SDPO, Patnagarh Pradip Kumar Mohapatra said police has launched a massive manhunt to nab the culprits while the entry points have been sealed following the incident.
