Bhubaneswar, Feb 24:
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved the construction of a ropeway that would connect Nehru Park with the Gandhi Minar on either side of the Hirakud dam to boost tourism in the area.
Hirakud Dam, Asia’s largest earthen dam, attracts a large number of tourists both from inside and outside the state. Apart from the dam, the Nehru Park and Gandhi Minar near the dam are other major attractions. The ropeway project is aimed at exploring the tourism potential of the site.
The ropeway will be constructed by Mahanadi Coalfields (a subsidiary of Coal India) under direct supervision of the state government’s Water Resources department.
The Chief Minister directed officials to strictly adhere to safety standards in the ropeway system and observe standard operating procedures in times of emergencies.
