15 injured in police-public clash in Rourkela

At least 15 persons, including 10 policemen were injured in a clash  that took placee near the Chhend colony here today.
According to the police, the residents of Begbudi village near Chhend colony pelted stones at policemen when they raided the area to arrest the miscreants involved in  the vandalisation of a Durga Mandap in the Steel City.
The villagers allegedly used women as their shield and despite several warnings continued to pelt stones injuring 10 policemen.
In retaliation, the police resorted to lathi charge after bringing in some women police personnel to deal with the mob.
“We have arrested 43 persons in this connection “, S Mohanty, Additional SP Rourkela, who was monitoring the operation, said.
Twelve platoons of policemen have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, he added.
All the injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital here.
