Rs 1 cr gold jewllery, cash robbed from Odisha bank at knifepoint

Dhenkanal: In a broad daylight heist, four armed miscreants robbed cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 1 crore from Utkal Gramya Bank at Rasol in Dhenkanal district today afternoon.

Even though the Utkal Gramya Bank was located at a distance of 200 metres from the Rasol police station, no one got a whiff of the robbery inside the bank. Only after the bank’s officials informed the police, the loot was known.

A senior police official said four youth with mask on their faces driving two motorcycles reached the Utkal Gramya Bank, Rasol branch few hours before its closure. They entered the bank and terrorized the bank staff with sharp weapons.

The miscreants locked up bank manager and two other staff in the strong room, whereas attacked two other employees and injured them. The masked miscreants then decamped with Rs 7-8 lakh cash and gold jewellery estimated to be around Rs 1 crore that was kept in the bank locker, the police official added.

Also, the robbers took away hard disk of the CCTVs installed at the bank.

Senior police officials reached the spot. They questioned the bank employees about the robbery and launched an investigation.

The injured bank staff were given first-aid at a nearby hospital.
