Rs 10.90 cr seizure from car: Odisha CB traces money source

Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough in the seizure of Rs 10.90 crore from a car in Chhattisgarh, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch has traced the source of the money.

The seized money belonged to a tobacco trader of Keonjhar district namely Rajesh Gupta, EOW sources said. A team of the agency conducted raids at multiple places in Keonjhar during the last two days after questioning the family members of the businessman.

However, Rajesh was yet to be traced by the EOW officials. His mobile phone was also being tracked to know about his presence.

The investigators have also raided a factory owned by Rajesh in Mancheswar area here. Preliminary probe revealed that the money was being carried from Mancheswar to Agra in the car.

A team of the Crime Branch will visit Agra to find out the reason for which such a huge amount of money was being sent to the city from Bhubaneswar, sources added.

Notably, four persons of Uttar Pradesh were on February 19 detained for questioning after Rs 10.90 crore was seized from their car in Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh. The car was stopped during a routine vehicle checking, during which the cash was found under the rear seat in denominations of Rs 2000, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100.
